Featured Classic Cocktail – Whiskey Sour

Whiskey Sour

The Whiskey Sour is a well-known classic cocktail containing whiskey, lemon juice and sugar. Often, craft bars add a touch of egg white for texture. It is shaken and served either straight or on the rock. With the addition of egg white, I prefer it straight to avoid diluting the drink.

Like many classics, the Whiskey Sour is another cocktail with a disputed past and an abundance of variations. In David Wondrich’s popular book, Imbibe, he says the earliest mention of the whiskey sour was found on a menu in a Toronto saloon (1865). Though this drink has a rich history it seems to have really become popular in the 1960’s. Today the Whiskey Sour is as popular as ever!
