Skeleton Key
In celebration of Halloween, I revisited one of the most successful cocktails I’ve ever placed on a menu. Although the cocktail wasn’t originally inspired by Halloween the name as well as the appearance caters to both fall and Halloween. Last year the Skeleton Key was voted best Halloween cocktail by About.com and can still be enjoyed at several accounts around Detroit.
After discovering Fever Tree Ginger Beer, my colleague Brain Volmer and I were inspired to create a cocktail showcasing the product. We found Bourbon to be a great base with St. Germain working perfectly to counter the heat. Then, we discovered by adding citrus and floating Angostura bitters on top we achieved perfect balance. This cocktail is very easy to make and definitely pleases the masses.
1 oz Woodford Reserve
¾ oz St. Germain
½ oz Lemon Juice
3 oz Fever Tree Ginger Beer
5 Dashes of Angostura Bitters
Pour all ingredients directly into a collins glass except the bitters. Then, add ice and gently stir. Finish by floating the Angostura bitters on top of the cocktail as your garnish.
